Use case
Mail server
A mail server needs a clean dedicated IP, outgoing port 25 and a matching reverse DNS record. We recommend Frankfurt for it.
Istanbul or Frankfurt
| Istanbul | Frankfurt | |
|---|---|---|
| Outgoing port 25 | Blocked by default, opened on request | Blocked by default, opened on request (faster) |
| Ports 587 / 465 | Open | Open |
| Reverse DNS (PTR) | Through a ticket | Self-service on the server page |
| Incoming mail on 25 | Open | Open |
Checklist
- Order a server with at least 2 GB of RAM (4 GB for Mailcow with spam filtering).
- Open a ticket asking for port 25 to be opened for the server's IP, and say what you will send.
- Set the hostname, an A record and a matching PTR record.
- Publish SPF, DKIM and DMARC records for your domain.
- Install Mailcow, Mail-in-a-Box or Postfix + Dovecot and send a test to a mail-tester service.
